Unassigned Lands Tee

€19.78

Before Oklahoma was Oklahoma, there was a hole in the middle of the map. Close to two million acres in the center of the territory, ceded in 1866 and then handed to nobody. No tribe assigned to it. No settlers allowed on it. Just empty grass that everybody wanted and nobody could legally touch.

For twenty years the Boomers pushed at the line and got run back out by cavalry. Then at noon on April 22, 1889, the guns went off and around fifty thousand people took the whole thing in a single afternoon. Towns that didn't exist at breakfast had mayors by dark.

This one marks that ground. Central Oklahoma, 1866–1889.
