Hell's Fringe Tee
Two territories sat side by side for eighteen years, and the seam between them was the problem. Oklahoma Territory ran on one set of courts, Indian Territory on another, and a rider who crossed the line put himself out of reach of whoever was behind him.
They called the strip along that seam Hell's Fringe. The Doolin gang worked it, the deputy marshals chased them through it, and the towns in between learned to keep their opinions to themselves. Statehood closed the gap in 1907 and the whole arrangement ended more or less overnight.
